Cutty Grass Track

page 6

Here is a small Pratia creeper, but again, I'm no familiar enough with the genus to make a definitive id.

There's something about the way a shrubby quintinia catches the light.

That looks like the track approaching the big clearing.

and here's a young Corokia buddleioides. Quite common as a rule in drier scrub, but not so along here.

There's a couple of small, brightly coloured mushrooms that take my eye in the bank, but I have trouble getting down close enough to them to focus well.

The wet reflection of this little fellow captures the fungal dampness well.

The big clearing is just around the corner, and we carry on past the Ridge Rd turnoffs left and right, past the small clearing with the gravel dump, and onwards

to where the clay track represents a major hazard to the elderly and stout.

We pick our way down the hill.

and there's the road.

I've been walking fast earlier on and got sweaty, but the last slow, careful, ten minutes or so in deeper shade has cooled me down considerably and I put the kettle on for a cuppa instead of heading for the fridge.
